How To Make Candles

Making your own candles is not as difficult as you may think. There are many candle making suggestions that can help you get started and you will find that the things you need are very reasonably priced. You can pick up your materials at any craft shop and the wonderful thing about making your own candles is that all you need to get started is a double boiler, which you can improvise with some of the pots you have at home.

The only thing you need is to have one boiler larger than the other and it will help a great deal if you can get the one you have to put the wax into with a spout attached for pouring. Pick up some paraffin wax and a few wicks, some coloring, a thermostat and some scented oil if you wish to use scent.

Heat up your water to the needed temperature and add your wax to the inside boiler and let the water in the bigger boiler slowly melt it. You have to make sure the wax reaches 160 degrees. Now you can start adding your coloring until you get it to the right color you desire. If you’re using scent, now is the time to add it. You need to keep the wax at the same temperature as you stir and add.

Cut your candle wicks to the right length and start dipping them in the hot wax. Pull a piece of candle wick out and allow it to cool. Repeat this until the candle is the size you want. When you dip it for the last time, give the candle plenty of time to completely cool off and set. When it is cooled off, then you can trim around the candle and cut the wick leaving it about one quarter way from the top of the candle. Now all you have to do is place your candle in a pretty candleholder and light it. Then all that’s left to do is step back and admire your handy work.
