Heavy Scented Candles
There are many variations to the scent of candles from the heavily scented candles to the unscented. They all have their own loveliness to give. We all enjoy the scents of candles, but few really know what goes into them. Additives like vybar, stearic acid, translucent and luster crystals all have a different effect on the burning of the candle. Fragrance and color can also have big effects on the candle.
Triple scented candles stem from the old candle makers’ wisdom, which suggested that a half an ounce of fragrance be used to every pound of wax that is being used. In a triple scented candle, you only use 1 1.5 ounces of each fragrance. Depending on the wax blend, some candles can use this heavily scented fragrance while others cannot. If the candle can’t, it will not burn properly.
So when you’re shopping for candles, don’t be afraid to ask questions about how the candle is made. Anyone that sells candles should be able to give you the basics of how it was made and how much fragrance it holds. When you’re shopping at a retail candle store, ask them for a sample before investing in the candle. You can also use your nose to find out a bit about the candle. If it’s a good scented candle you should be able to smell it an arms-length away.
When you’re buying a scented candle, scent it the most important thing to look for, not the color or the shape. A well made scented candle should be smooth to the touch unless you’re looking for a special one that is noted for its distinctive coating. With a little practice you will get to know your candles very well and it won’t be difficult in choosing which one you want.
